On the occasion of the 7th edition of Fare Cinema 2024, this evening the Instituto Italiano de Cultura of Madrid invites you to spend an evening with Italian cinema: two short films and a feature film.

At 18.30 the short film In quanto a noi (5′) directed by Simone Massi will be screened. Finalist of the David di Donatello 2024, created and directed by Simone Massi, with voice-over by Wim Wenders, inspired by the poem Avevamo studiato per l’aldilà by Eugenio Montale. Genre: Animation; Country: Italy; Year: 2023. Original version in Italian.

This will be followed by the screening of the short film The Meatseller (17′) directed by Margherita Giusti, winner of the Best Short Film Award at the David di Donatello 2024. Genre: Animation. Country: Italy. Year: 2023. Original version in English.

And at 19.30 the feature film Rapito (The Abduction), directed and written by Marco Bellocchio, which has won 6 Nastri d’Argento: best film, best direction, best actress, best non-starring actor, best screenplay, best editing; the Golden Globe for best film; 5 David di Donatello for best adapted screenplay, best set design, best costumes, best make-up, best hairdressing; and, finally, the award for best screenplay at the Seminci 2023, will be screened. The screening will be in the original version with Spanish subtitles.

Starring Filippo Timi, Fabrizio Gifuni, Barbara Ronchi, Paolo Pierobon and Fausto Russo Alesi in their leading roles, this film tells how in 1858, in the Jewish quarter of Bologna, the Pope’s soldiers break into the house of the Mortara family. Following the Cardinal’s orders, they have gone to seize Edgardo, the seven-year-old son. The boy was secretly baptised by his wet nurse as a baby and the pontifical law is indisputable: he must receive a Catholic education. Edgardo’s parents, shocked, are going to do everything they can to get their son back. Supported by public opinion in liberal Italy and the international Jewish community, the Mortara family’s struggle soon took on a political dimension. But the Church and the Pope refuse to return the child, thus trying to consolidate an increasingly weakened power.

Free admission until full capacity is reached, with prior booking by writing to alessandra.picone@esteri.it, indicating the sessions you wish to attend, name, surname and contact telephone number of the persons for whom booking is requested.
