This week, the Secretaría General Iberoamericana (SEGIB), the Servicio Oficial de Difusión, Representaciones y Espectáculos (Sodre) of Uruguay, and Ópera Latinoamérica (OLA) presented the book Gestión de los Grandes Teatros Iberoamericanos, at the Auditorio Nacional Reta in Montevideo (Uruguay), which explores the best practices, strategies and stories behind 14 of Ibero-America’s leading theatres, all of which are examples of modern and innovative management.

The volume, which includes colour photographs and a fact sheet on each of the theatres, will be available online, free of charge, for those who want to walk through spaces such as the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Teatro El Liceu in Barcelona or the Teatro Amazonas in Manaus, among others.

The 14 main Ibero-American theatres featured in the book are: Teatro del Bicentenario de San Juan, Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires, Teatro Amazonas, Teatro Municipal de São Paulo, Teatro Municipal de Santiago, Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo de Bogotá, Teatro Sánchez Aguilar de Guayaquil, Teatro El Liceu de Barcelona, Teatro Real de Madrid, Palacio de Bellas Artes (Mexico City), Teatro Nacional de Perú (Lima), Teatro Nacional de São Carlos de Lisboa, Teatro Solís (Montevideo) and the Auditorio Nacional Adela Reta del Sodre (Montevideo).

Aimed at theatre management professionals and researchers as well as the general public, the publication, available in Spanish and Portuguese and distributed in physical and digital versions for free circulation, analyses the challenges and achievements in the management of Ibero-American theatres, highlighting the particularities of each institution and how they have managed to integrate their cultural heritage with modern demands.

The publication was led by SEGIB, through the Ibero-American Cultural Space and the Subregional Office for the Southern Cone located in Montevideo, the Sodre and OLA, and was supported by UNESCO and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).

The book can be downloaded here and an explanatory video here.
