Author: Jean-Baptiste Andrea.

This evening at 7 p.m., the Instituto Francés of Madrid is organising a literary meeting in its theatre with Jean-Baptiste Andrea and the presentation of his fourth novel, Cuidar de ella (Caring for Her), winner of the Goncourt Prize 2023. Event in French with simultaneous translation. Reservations are essential on this form.

The novelist, film director and screenwriter Jean-Baptiste Andrea presents his latest novel, a literary phenomenon, full of enthusiasm and brilliance, touched by grace and beauty. Taking Care of Her is the third best-selling book in France in 2023. Author and literary critic Jacinta Cremades will moderate the meeting.

This multi-award-winning novel also won the FNAC Prize 2023 and the Goncourt Prize in Spain, whose jury is made up of students from the largest Spanish universities. Juries in China, Japan and Bulgaria have also praised the novel.

The book tells how Mimo works as an apprentice with a small-time but talented sculptor. Viola Orsini is an heiress of a prestigious family, but she has too much ambition to resign herself to the role of wife that has been assigned to her from the cradle. The apprentice and the aristocrat were not meant to meet. But when they meet, they vow never to part. Mimo and Viola can neither live together nor stay apart for long. Bound by a fierce attraction, they go through years of fury when Italy falls to fascism. Mimo takes revenge on fate, but what good is glory to him if it means losing Viola?
