Tomorrow, Tuesday, the Fundación Carlos de Amberes is hosting two interesting activities: a soprano and theorbo concert, as well as a seminar on the War in the Netherlands (1568-1713).
From 9 a.m. to 6.30 p.m., the seminar entitled War in the Netherlands (1568-1713) – Intermediality, opinion and memory will take place in the Auditorio of the Fundación Carlos de Amberes (calle Claudio Coello 99).
The Netherlands is one of the areas of conflict in which the Spanish Monarchy was involved in the modern period that best illustrates not only the complex way in which information management was carried out in a war context, but also the unusual media dimension that a conflict could reach. The sophisticated propaganda machinery developed by the Dutch is well known. For the first time, a rich and effective arsenal of different textual and visual forms (pamphlets, engravings, libels, plays, satires, songs, etc.) was used. This intermediality continues to offer new lines of research by showing the elaborate interrelationships between different media and contributing to the reconstruction of processes of memory formation about conflicts ranging from the Eighty Years’ War to the War of the Spanish Succession, both in the Netherlands and in other European geographies.
This seminar proposes to reflect on this dynamic media dimension, and on the management of opinion and the creation of memory during the War in the Netherlands, from the perspective of those who judged their rebellion as just, as well as those who fought it. All the information and the programme of the seminar can be found at this link.
The last event of the 4th Rubens Festival, organised by the Fundación and BIAM (Brussels International Artists Management), will take place at 8 pm. The concert, In the Footsteps of the Dutchman Constantijn Huygens, will be given by the group La Sfera Armoniosa (in the photo), made up of the soprano Channa Malkin and the theorist Mike Fentross. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
On this occasion, the Dutch artists will perform baroque music by Lambert, Kapsberger and Monteverdi, with the figure of Constantijn Huygens, one of the most important poets and musicians of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, as a common thread.
La Sfera Armoniosa was founded in 1992 and focuses on performing music from the 17th and 18th centuries. In a short time, La Sfera Armoniosa became a first-class ensemble performing at major European festivals and halls, receiving excellent reviews for many years.
