The Diplomat
On the occasion of World Bicycle Day, the Ambassador of Finland, Sari Rautio, and the Ambassador of Poland, Anna Sroka, in collaboration with the Madrid City Council and the Municipal Transport Company (EMT), have invited all their fellow ambassadors and representatives of the diplomatic missions located in Madrid to take a bicycle tour, which will take place on Monday 3 June.
This will be the second time this event has taken place, and last year it was a great success. World Bike Day draws attention to the benefits of using this means of transport, which, as well as being simple, affordable and clean, is environmentally sustainable. Cycling contributes to cleaner, less congested air and makes education, health care and other social services more accessible to the most vulnerable populations.
This Day incentivises making the most of cycling’s potential to contribute to the achievement of internationally agreed development goals, including the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda targets. ‘As last year, we strongly believe that the visibility of the Ambassadors will highlight that cycling is a symbol of sustainable transport and conveys a message about the need for sustainable transition of societies and cities, and that it has a beneficial impact on the climate,’ says the Finnish Embassy.
Its route will be along Paseo de la Castellana street and will have the following agenda:
17.00h Meeting in front of the Torre Emperador (Paseo de la Castellana, 259D).
17.15h Institutional greeting
17.30h Start of the route
18.00 – 18.30h Arrival at Plaza de Cibeles and closure
