A total of 56,792 people requested asylum in Spain from January 1 to April 30 of this year, which is 6.7% more than in the same period in 2023 (52,975), according to the Spanish Commission for Refugee Assistance. (CEAR) on the social network X.
The majority of applicants come from Venezuela (37.1%) and Colombia (27.2%). Behind them are those from Peru (7%), Mali (6%) and Senegal (5%).
CEAR indicated that only one in ten applications was resolved favorably and that almost five out of ten were denied, more than half (53.3%) to people from Colombia.
Regarding the presentation of the applications, 95.9% of these were made in national territory, while 3.3% at a border post, 0.6% at the Foreigners Internment Center (CIE) and 0.2 % in embassy. 54% of these belonged to men and 46% to women.
