His Majesty the King will attend next Saturday, June 1, the inauguration of the president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, who was re-elected for a second term on February 4 by an overwhelming majority.

Although it is common for the Monarch to attend the inaugurations of the leaders of Ibero-American countries, this has not always been the case, and when Bukele began his first term, on June 1, 2019, the person in charge of representing Spain was the then president. of the Senate, Manuel Cruz, fourth authority of the State.

It is not yet known who will accompany Don Felipe on this occasion. It is also common for the person to do so to be the Minister of Foreign Affairs, but, in the same way, this has not always happened. For example, Minister José Manuel Albares did not accompany the Monarch to the inauguration of the Argentine president, Javier Milei, in November of last year. Albares’ agenda for this week includes participation in a meeting of NATO ministers on Thursday and Friday in Prague.

This trip to El Salvador will be the second he has made to attend an inauguration of an Ibero-American leader this year, after attending that of the Guatemalan president, Bernardo Arévalo, last January.

The inauguration of the mandate of the new president of Panama, José Raúl Mulino, is also scheduled for next July 1, and it is not ruled out that the King may also be present at the ceremony.
