Next Thursday, May 30th at 6.30 pm, the Embassy of Haiti celebrates its Flag Day with the screening of the documentary AYITI, a Haitian story at Casa América’s Sala Iberia.
Haiti is a country with a history as difficult as it is heroic, a country that has endured through the ages to become a symbol of pride and resistance. A series of artists, philosophers and historians share their sincere opinions and their love for Haiti, its history and its myths. This film is a tribute to the beauty and strength of Haitian culture.
A journey into the heart of Haitian chaos. In a society in crisis, where the status of artist is not recognised at all, the richness of artistic practices and disciplines emerges at every turn. Through the prism of the country’s history, spirituality, language and philosophy, this film questions the fundamental need to create in order to exist. It aims to offer a vision radically different from preconceived ideas about Haiti. The aim is not to refute the country’s crisis, but to highlight all the riches that make the pearl of the Antilles the epicentre of an entire part of Caribbean culture.
After some words of welcome from Luis Prados, Director of Programming at Casa de América, and Guy Lamothe, Ambassador of Haiti, some of the producers and directors will present the documentary, followed by a screening.
