The president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky, will make today the visit to Spain that he was forced to cancel on the 17th, due to the evolution of the war in his country against Russia.
This is Zelensky’s first bilateral visit to Spain, since last October he was in Granada, but he did so to participate in the summit of the European Political Community within the framework of the Spanish presidency of the EU.
The forecast is that the Ukrainian president, as scheduled in the visit that had to be postponed, will go to the Moncloa Palace to sign with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, the bilateral security agreement with which Spain undertakes to continue. providing military support to Ukraine in its war conflict, and which is in line with those signed by the G7 countries and other Europeans.
The meeting will be at noon and after it, Sánchez and Zelensky will appear at a joint press conference.
Afterwards, as announced last night by the King’s House, Zelensky will go to the Royal Palace, where he will be received by Felipe VI, and then he will attend a lunch in his honor offered by the King and the Queen. During the lunch, which will also be attended by the head of the Spanish Executive, both the Monarch and the Ukrainian president will say a few words.
When the postponement occurred on the 17th, Zarzuela had announced those same events with Zelenski and, although Moncloa had not officially confirmed the visit, government sources did recognize that the signing of the security agreement was being prepared.
The truth is that, hours after Zarzuela’s announcement, the Ukrainian authorities announced that Zelensky was postponing the trip, which was also going to take him to Portugal, to focus on the situation on the new front opened by Russia in the northeastern Kharkiv region.
This time, Zelensky’s agenda was not communicated until late yesterday, for security reasons. All of his trips abroad are prepared with the utmost caution and are usually not confirmed until he is at the destination.
