The Hispano-British Foundation has announced the first “Leonor of Castile, Queen of England Award”, which aims to promote and recognize the work of journalists, communicators and disseminators in the written media, in Spain and the United Kingdom, for his contribution to a better relationship and mutual understanding between Spanish and British societies.

The Prize is created in honor of Eleanor of Castile (1241-1290), queen consort of England through her marriage to Edward I, to highlight that she was an influential personality who contributed to strengthening the ties between Castile and England. Furthermore, she is considered a key figure who symbolized the beginning of a period of understanding between two Crowns that would later give rise to the Kingdom of Spain and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The call to access the award is open until July 20 for both Spain and the United Kingdom and the award has a prize of 3,000 euros.

Candidate works must have been published in writing, in Spanish or English, in some Spanish or British media, with a maximum length of 2,000 words, between May 19, 2022 and May 19, 2024. Each candidate may present a maximum of five jobs.

The jury, appointed by the Hispano-British Foundation, will be chaired by José María de Areilza Carvajal, Count of Motrico.
