The Spanish tour guide and photographer Toni Espadas died yesterday after an attack when he was recording in Ethiopia for the program ‘Socios por el Mundo’, on the Chilean channel Teletrece, according to the network in a statement.
Channel 13 noted that Espadas was “the victim of a complex incident” and, after mourning his death, conveyed his full support to the family.
The team was recording the Murci tribe, in Ethiopia, when they were the victim of an attack, when they were already leaving the area, after having finished the day. Apparently, two armed individuals crossed in front of the truck in which the team was traveling and when they avoided them, they shot them.
“The hosts and all the members of the team of the program, made by the production company MkZeta, are in good health,” reported Teletrece, which noted that both the network and the Chilean Foreign Ministry “are carrying out all the arrangements so that they can leave.” as soon as possible from the country, return to Chile and give them all the support they require”.
Espadas was part of the team led by the renowned Chilean journalist Francisco ‘Pancho’ Saavedra and the actor, also Chilean, Jorge Zabaleta, presenters of ‘Socios por el Mundo’, a program to “discover new and distant cultures, reveal exotic and beautiful landscapes , and live great adventures”, according to the channel on its website, and of which they began recording the third season at the beginning of April.
