Tickets are now on sale for the Madrid International Fado Festival, which will be held at the Caixaforum Madrid and Umusic Hotel Teatro Albéniz on Wednesday 5, Friday 7 and Saturday 8 June and which this year will feature the voices of Carminho (pictured), Cristina Branco and Júlio Resende.
The Madrid Fado Festival will dedicate the programme of its 14th edition to commemorating Fado and freedom in the year that marks the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution. Both the concerts and the rest of the programme will focus on highlighting the contribution of the Portuguese genre to understanding and harmony.
Throughout the festival, the exhibition Fado and Freedom, created by the Fado Museum and the EGEAC, will be on display at the theatre. The Filmoteca Nacional, the traditional venue of the Fado Festival, will also host a lecture by Rui Vieira Nery, one of the most prestigious Portuguese musicologists and historians, and the film O Cônsul de Bordéus, a classic of international cinema that focuses its story on the Portuguese contribution to freedom.
