The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, assured yesterday that he will defend the continuity of the Next Generation funds beyond 2026.
This was announced by Pedro Sánchez during the inauguration of the IV edition of the forum ‘European Funds: Innovation for sustainable growth’, organized by elDiario.es in Madrid and in which he stressed that these funds are promoting “extraordinary” actions in Spain, allowing address “the great challenges of humanity”, especially in the ecological and digital transition.
During the event, the President of the Government stated that these funds, which amount to 160,000 million euros allocated until 2026, represent a historic opportunity that Spain is taking advantage of so that we can modernize our productive fabric” and are allowing Spain to “do absolutely extraordinary things”.
In particular, he stressed that Spain is at the forefront of leading the ecological transition towards green hydrogen, a vision that has been recognized by both foreign investors and European governments, as well as multilateral institutions.
In this context, he highlighted the importance of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), which includes projects that, according to Sánchez, not only contribute to economic growth, but also serve as tools to improve the social and territorial cohesion of the country.
The President of the Government took advantage of his intervention to call for participation in the European elections in June. He urged citizens to decide what kind of Europe they want for the next five years. In that sense, he argued that “the options are clear.”
“In the face of those who approached the recovery after the 2008 crisis with the dogma of austerity versus the mantra that it is only possible to gain competitiveness by internally devaluing economies, losing salaries, devaluing the working conditions of millions of workers, the model Spanish has shown that competitiveness can be gained by raising salaries and reducing inequality,” Sánchez continued.
