The Instituto Cultural Rumano of Madrid is organising, in collaboration with the EUNIC Madrid Cluster and the church of San Antonio de los Alemanes in the Spanish capital, the participation of organist Steffen Markus Schlandt in the International Organ Festival of Madrid, which takes place from 6 April to 14 December.

The Romanian musician will give a concert of approximately one hour on 25 May 2024 at 8 p.m. in the church of San Antonio de los Alemanes (Calle de la Puebla, 22), in which he will include contemporary Romanian pieces (Gabriel Mălăncioiu and Șerban Marcu), as well as compositions by George Enescu.

This year’s edition of the Madrid International Organ Festival will include the participation of the Instituto Polaco de Cultura, Alliançe Française, the Swiss Embassy and the Instituto Rumano de Cultura in Madrid on behalf of the EUNIC Madrid Cluster. Musicians from Spain, Italy, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Switzerland and Romania will participate.

Steffen Markus Schlandt has an outstanding musical career and is internationally known for his organ concerts. Since 2004 he has been the conductor of the Bach Choir and organist of Biserica Neagră. At the same time he collaborates with the Faculty of Music in Brașov as an associate professor, teaching the subjects of score reading, chamber music and orchestra.

The International Organ Festival is a project of EUNIC in collaboration with the church of San Antonio de los Alemanes in Madrid, nicknamed the ‘Sistine Chapel’ of Madrid for its impressive frescoes. The festival is organised annually, with the participation of Europe’s best-known organists.

The EUNIC Madrid Cluster has been operating since 2008, when it was formed by the Alliance Française, the British Council, the Centro Checo de Madrid, the Austrian Cultural Forum, the Instituto Goethe, the Instituto Francés, the Instituto Cultural Rumano, the Ibero-American Institute of Finland and the Italian Institute, with the aim of organising cultural projects focused on current social issues and creating a space for reflection on culture in favour of a living, tolerant and open culture in Spain, Europe and the world.

Ticket (donation) to the Real Hermandad del Refugio y Piedad de Madrid of 10€ which can be purchased at the church or at this link.
