Sumar’s spokesperson for Justice and Interior in Congress, Enrique Santiago (IU), believes that the international community should break diplomatic relations with Israel and subject it to a “boycott” similar to the one carried out against apartheid South Africa, which was decisive – he has said – to end racial segregation.
The communist leader urged, in a press conference, the Executive to now recognize the Palestinian State, and criticized that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, had gone, according to him, “to ask the United States for permission” to do so. He asked that they be done even if Washington does not agree.
Furthermore, he stressed that Spain is an independent country, which “has to ensure its sovereignty” and compliance with international law and human rights.
Enrique Santiago said that Spanish companies should be “grateful” to the Minister of Social Rights, Pablo Bustinduy, for having warned them that it is a crime to do business “in illicitly occupied territories.
Sumar’s spokesperson said that the CRUE’s decision to cut off relations with Israeli universities that do not respect Human Rights and, where appropriate, suspend collaboration agreements with research centers and universities in Israel that do not have expressed a firm commitment to peace.
For Enrique Santiago, it makes no sense that “at this point” they begin to review whether or not Israeli universities are committed to peace by emphasizing that what we have here is a country “committing genocide” and that has ” the audacity of calling oneself a democracy.
For her part, the second vice president of the Government and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, stated yesterday that “Israel is incompatible” with the values promoted by Eurovision and “should not participate in the contest”, the final of which is being held tonight in Malmö. (Sweden)
“Eurovision is joy, peace and diversity. Not the showcase to whitewash Israel’s genocide against the Palestinian people, which is death, destruction and hatred,” Díaz wrote on his X social network account.
This request joins that of the Socialist Youth who called to turn off the televisions during the performance of the Israeli representative, Eden Golan.
