The director of the Instituto Cervantes, Luis García Montero, begins this Tuesday a working trip through Mexico and Cuba in which he will sign several academic agreements and agreements and will be awarded by the House of Representatives of Mexico.

As reported yesterday by the institution of Spanish cultural diplomacy in a press release, García Montero’s work agenda will begin today in Mexico City with the presentation of the IV Poetry Conference of the Rubén Bonifaz Nuño Chair, organized by the Instituto Cervantes in collaboration with the Philological Research Institute of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the University of Granada.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, he will meet with the director of the Teaching Center for Foreigners, Anel Pérez, after which he will sign an agreement with the UNAM. In the afternoon, García Montero will go to the Mexican House of Representatives, where he will sign a collaboration agreement between both institutions.

Likewise, the director of the Instituto Cervantes will collect the Recognition of Excellence in Humanities Letters, awarded by the House of Representatives of Mexico, for “the exceptional literary quality, as well as the creativity and originality present in his poetic work with which he has “enriched the literary panorama in a remarkable way.” This award was given for the first time last year and went to the Chilean poet Raúl Zurita.

After his visit to Mexico, the director of Cervantes will travel to Havana, where on Friday he will give a conference at the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, within the framework of the XIV Nicolás Guillén Festival Colloquium. The next day, Saturday, García Montero will meet with representatives of the Cuban Academy of Language at the San Gerónimo University College in Havana and with the winners of the Havana university literary contest at the University of the capital.

In the afternoon, he will be received by the rector of the University of Havana, Miriam Nicado, with whom he will discuss the signing of an agreement for said academic institution to become a DELE exam center. The work program will conclude on Saturday afternoon with the participation of García Montero in a poetry recital at the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba.
