Foreign Minister addresses bilateral relations with his new colleague from Senegal

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, spoke yesterday, via telematic means, with his new colleague from Senegal, Yassine Fall, who was appointed to the position on the 7th, after the change of president registered in the African country.

 

Albares and Fall, as indicated by the minister in his social network account X, addressed in their conversation the “excellent” bilateral relations, including immigration and economic relations.

 

Likewise, according to the minister, they discussed the situation in the Sahel, the fight against drought, financing for development and support for the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

 

Albares traveled to Dakar in December of last year, where he was received by the previous president, Macky Sall, and held a working meeting with his then counterpart, Ismaila Madior Fall, with whom he mainly discussed immigration issues.

 

At the end of March, after the elections were held in Senegal on the 24th of that month, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement in which it “warmly” congratulated the new president, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, and stressed that the elections were were carried out “in a democratic, transparent and peaceful manner, reflecting Senegal’s deep-rooted democratic tradition.”
