Actress Belén Rueda performs ‘Salomé’ at Teatro Bellas Artes

From 30 April to 5 May, the Teatro Bellas Artes in Madrid presents the play Salomé, directed by Magüi Mira and starring Belén Rueda, Luisa Martín, Juan Fernández, Sergio Mur and Antonio Sansano.

In the words of the director, this play “is History. Brutal history. This story is populated by people who have existed and have crossed paths in the streets. In the early years of the first century AD, the Romans continue to invade the lands surrounding the Mediterranean. They set up monarchs, savage dictators to subjugate their people. They arrive in Judea. And there a princess, Salome, secretly supports the rebels who resist the rule of King Herod, that corrupt puppet appointed by Rome. A man without morals who rules without law.”

“John the Baptist, spiritual leader of his people, cries out against the invader and goes astray captive in the prison of Herod’s Palace. He gives his life for a New Time. He is a Prophet. He says that hope is the breath of all dreams. And he kindles the Princess’s desire.”
