Until 12 May, the Teatro de La Abadía in Madrid presents Del color de la leche, by Nell Leyshon, directed by Fernando Bernués and performed by Joseba Apaolaza, Miren Arrieta, Mireia Gabilondo, Aitziber Garmendia, Jon Olivares and José Ramón Soroíz.
This is the theatrical adaptation of a book that captivated and moved the public. In fact, it was recognised as Book of the Year Award 2014 by the Booksellers’ Guild of Madrid and was nominated for the Femina Award in France.
Mary, a young girl living with her family on a farm in rural England in 1830, has hair the colour of milk and was born with a physical defect in one leg, but manages to escape her family doom when she is sent to work as a maid to look after the vicar’s wife. She then has the chance to learn to read and write, to stop seeing “just a bunch of black lines” in books. As she leaves the world of shadows, she discovers that the lights can be even more blinding, so Mary is left with only the power to tell her story. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
