To mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Spain, the Palacio Real in Madrid is hosting the exhibition Más allá del Realismo: el arte figurativo en China y España (Beyond Realism: Figurative Art in China and Spain).
This unique exhibition is the result of an unprecedented collaboration between artists from both countries, with the great Chinese masters and the renowned Spanish artist Antonio López leading the way.
The exhibition, organised by the Association for the Promotion of Artistic Exchange between Spain and China (APIAEC), has received an extraordinary reception in China, where it was on view in the cities of Hangzhou and Beijing before travelling to Spain. The exhibition will remain open for more than a month and a half, until 28 May.
The exhibition will feature the best works of three generations of artists from China and Spain, spanning half a century from the 1960s to the present. With a total of 100 works by 100 artists, the exhibition presents a rich variety of styles and themes, reflecting the cultural and artistic diversity of both countries.
The participating artists include leading masters from both countries, such as Quan Shangshi, Jin Shangyi, Zhan Jianjun, Antonio López García, Isabel Quintanilla and Julio Vaquero. The exhibition has the backing of important figures and institutions from the art world in China and Spain.
