Tomorrow Friday at 7 p.m., the Instituto Francés of Madrid presents the book El vestido blanco, in a meeting with its author Nathalie Léger. The event will be in French with simultaneous translation. You must book your place at this link.
Nathalie Léger will present her novel El vestido blanco published by Sexto Piso, a tragic story of an artist who hitchhiked across Europe demanding peace and which resonates with her family history. The author and bookseller Marina Sanmartín Pla will moderate the meeting.
Using the symbolism of the white dress as a starting point and with the precision and clairvoyance to which we are accustomed, Nathalie Léger links two apparently unrelated women’s stories and, in a beautiful, subtle and reflective style, highlights the importance – both in the family and in art – of the search for a story that does us justice.
In March 2008, the Italian artist Pippa Bacca undertook a performance as daring as it was full of good intentions: to travel by hitchhiking from Milan to Jerusalem dressed as a bride, in a sort of anti-war pilgrimage through countries where the traces of war are still palpable, as a form of vindication of peace and universal love, represented by the white dress. A decade later, the French author Nathalie Léger, overwhelmed by Bacca’s story and its fatal outcome, decided to investigate the motives that led the young woman to undertake such a dangerous journey.
