Pakistan’s new ambassador to Spain, Zahoor Ahmed, presented the Copies of his Letters of Credence at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs last week, before the introducer of ambassadors, María Sebastián de Erice.
Zahoor Ahmed replaces Shujjat Ali Rathore, who has headed the Pakistani Embassy since the summer of 2021.
The new ambassador, who was until now in Sweden and Finland, has more than 30 years of experience as a diplomat, throughout which he has held various positions abroad and in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Thus, before his arrival at the Embassy in Stockholm, he was additional secretary of Foreign Affairs for Asia and the Pacific. him looking after Pakistan’s relations with China and countries in the ASEAN and SAARC regions, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Korea. He also represented Pakistan in ASEAN regional forum, ASEM and SAARC.
Likewise, he was National Coordinator of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), a multilateral organization composed of China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, in addition to Pakistan. Ahmed represented Pakistan in the SCO Anti-Terrorism Regional Structure Council from October 2018 to September 2020.
He has served in Pakistan’s Diplomatic Missions in Budapest, London and Manil, and was ‘number two’ at the Pakistani Embassy in Beijing, from 2010 to 2013, and Consul General in Manchester, from 2013 to 2017.
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad, he held various positions in Afghanistan, US, Staff, Policy Planning and UN Divisions and represented Pakistan in various international conferences and meetings including the International Maritime Organization, the Commonwealth, the UN Human Rights Council and World Economic Forum, Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and SCO-RATS.
