NATO has selected the Spanish National Cybersecurity Institute (Incibe) as the only cybersecurity startup accelerator of the Atlantic Alliance in Spain. This was reported yesterday by José Luis Escriva, Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Service of the Government of Spain, during the Europa Press Breakfasts.

Incibe presented its candidacy in February 2023 to launch a network of laboratories to certify the cybersecurity of innovative products, solutions and services by new companies that NATO wants to promote in the coming years, and the designation of Incibe to this in Spain has occurred through the ‘Diana’ program (Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic).

Escrivá emphasized the importance of cybersecurity within the framework of the business ecosystem in Spain and highlighted the existence in the country of entities such as Incibe and also Red.es.

Regarding Incibe, he pointed out that it is an “exemplary institution worldwide” with “very high-level” professional standards. Likewise, he highlighted the work of Red.es to launch the Digital Kit and its ability to ensure that it has reached “so many self-employed workers and SMEs.”

The ‘Diana’ project aims to boost transatlantic cooperation in critical technologies and help NATO work more closely with private sector entities, academia and other non-governmental entities.

In this way, the technology accelerator will be a new NATO body and will be responsible for bringing together innovative civil and military organizations and promoting artificial intelligence, autonomy, big data processing, quantum, biotechnology and others. technologies.

To promote the creation of companies related to emerging dual-use technology that are a priority for NATO, this international political and military organization has approved an initial innovation fund of 1,000 million euros where the network of accelerators will also provide financing, mentoring and exposure to commercial opportunities for new companies that participate.
