From tomorrow until the 15th of June, Casa Asia and the MK2 Cine Paz of Madrid (Calle de Fuencarral, 125) will resume every Saturday at 12 noon the programme of the cycle New Views of Asian Cinema.
The aim of Casa Asia is to continue showing a cinema that has ceased to be an exception to be increasingly present in national and international festivals or in the annual programme of cinemas.
In this new chapter they present Central Asian cinema from Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, as well as an interesting film from Afghanistan, a country about which very little has been known for a long time. Iranian cinema continues to be important, as is evident from the two films selected for their social interest. This is followed by a controversial production from India on Kashmir and the historical roots of an unresolved conflict, ending with recent Southeast Asian cinema from the Philippines, Korea, Indonesia and Japan.
The ten titles programmed cover a period of five years, between 2019 and 2023, in which Asian cinema has experienced a significant growth in its audiences in the West. Proof of this is the increased presence of these films at international and Spanish festivals. The promotion of most of the productions from such remote geographies has contributed to normalising the interest in global cinema, beyond the physical and virtual borders that have often separated film production between continents into blocks.
The titles that make up this cycle can be consulted on Casa Asia’s website.
