The Spain-China Council Foundation and the Garrigues law firm last Tuesday analyzed investment opportunities in the Asian country, in light of the current Chinese regulatory framework.
The event, which was held under the motto “Invest safely in China. Exploring new opportunities”, included the participation of Manuel Torres, partner of Garrigues in China, and Manuel Valencia, former ambassador of Spain in that country, between 2013 and 2017 and current vice president of Técnicas Reunidas International.
Before an audit of more than sixty representatives of different companies and administrations, Antonio Garrigues, honorary president, spoke; Rosa Zarza, ‘senior partner’ of the firm and Ramón Moreno, general secretary of the Spain-China Council Foundation, to give way to the participants in the debate.
Manuel Torres reviewed the current situation of foreign investments in China, providing numerous data and analyzing some of the measures implemented by the Beijing Government to attract foreign capital.
For his part, Manuel Valencia outlined an overview of the geostrategic situation, the growth of China’s position in the world and its relations with other large countries such as the United States or Russia, as well as the question of Taiwan or the state of bilateral relations. of the Asian giant with Spain.
Throughout the debate, some of the main foreign investments announced for 2024 in China were reviewed, along with some technical issues of interest to investors, such as the repatriation of dividends or the negative list of sectors subject to restrictions. Likewise, details were given about the problems of specific sectors, such as those related to audiovisual rights for sporting events.
