A consortium made up of the Spanish companies Acciona, Sacyr and Cintra (Ferrovial) will build a large highway in Peru, with an investment of 3,400 million dollars (about 3.136 million euros).
The Peruvian authorities awarded this work on Thursday, which will include the design, financing, construction, management and maintenance of an urban highway around Lima, the Peruvian capital, which will be “the most advanced in Latin America.”
The highway, which will be tolled and will be 34.8 kilometers long, will connect eleven districts of Metropolitan Lima and one of the port province of Callao, annexed to the capital.
The Spanish consortium is made up of 35% Cintra (Ferrovial’s highway subsidiary), while the companies Sacyr and Acciona will each have a 32.5% stake.
The Prime Minister of Peru, Gustavo Adrianzéén, assured that this award is a reason for satisfaction for the Government and an example of the economic reactivation that is underway in his country.
He added that the peripheral road ring will give concrete benefits at daily levels to almost 5 million inhabitants of the Peruvian capital, since it will reduce Lima’s infrastructure gap by 13%.
The director of the state Private Investment Promotion Agency (Proinversión), José Salardi, described the award as “historic”, since it is the largest infrastructure project awarded in the last decade in the country. He highlighted that the companies in charge of the project are “world class” and will establish the best standards.
For his part, Cintra’s commercial director in Latin America, Federico Gredilla, thanked the Peruvian Government for its trust in the Spanish consortium and stated that the work is an enormous challenge for companies. He assured that this highway will have the best technological, design, environmental and financial advances.
According to its promoters, it is estimated that this project will generate more than 70,000 jobs, both direct and indirect, in its construction stage, of which 5,000 positions will be directly associated.
During its operation, the creation of 20,000 jobs per year, both direct and indirect, is expected, always according to data from the promoters.
The Lima Peripheral Road Ring will incorporate Design Information Management (BIM), Asset Management and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) systems, “in order to guarantee efficient and safe infrastructure management.”
