The International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP), an entity of Spanish Cooperation, leads an initiative of the European Union to promote “inclusive and equitable” societies in Latin America and the Caribbean, in which it participates, among others European agencies, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
This past Wednesday, the Commissioner for International Partnerships of the European Union, Jutta Urpilainen, together with the #TeamEurope (TEI) group, announced in Brussels the launch of the Initiative on Inclusive and Equitable Societies, which will mobilize more than one billion euros to Latin America and the Caribbean.
The objective of the TEI Inclusive and Equitable Societies, led by the EU together with Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and Sweden, is to facilitate access to social rights and services, achieve inclusive, responsible and transparent institutions, as well as promote social innovation, resilience and a just transition. The activity of this program will focus primarily on women and youth and will address issues such as gender equality, social rights, social protection, inclusive employment and education, and good governance.
The Inclusive and Equitable Societies program will be developed by a European consortium led by the FIIAPP – the Spanish state public sector entity dedicated to international cooperation in matters of administration and public policies – and made up of the AECID, the French Development Agency (AFD ), the Italian-Latin American Organization (IILA), the Italian Cooperation Agency (AICS) and the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ).
The initiative is part of the EUROsociAL project, a cooperation program between Latin America and the European Union that seeks to contribute to the improvement of social cohesion in Latin American countries, as well as to institutional strengthening, by supporting their design processes, reform and implementation of public policies.
“We want to promote a cooperation agenda with Latin America and the Caribbean to fight against inequalities and for our regions to deepen this partnership in favor of social cohesion and inclusive societies. Together we are an engine of progress and equality,” declared Urpilainen.
For her part, Eva Granados, State Secretary for International Cooperation of Spain, defended cooperation that is aligned with the interests of partner countries, focusing on education and health as axes to reduce inequalities.
