‘Compañero de vida’, by terrorism specialist Jesús María Zuloaga

A lunch between former university classmates marks the beginning of this gripping novel, Compañero de vida (Life Companion), which is as easy to read as it is interesting and gripping from the very first pages.

She, a famous writer, gives him, a civil guard who has set up a security company, a card with an enigmatic phrase that seems to be a declaration of the old love they had for each other that never ended, and a telephone number… that seems to be temporarily disconnected. From there on, and thanks to the skill of the agent and his colleagues, a story unfolds between Spain, Portugal and Morocco, in which the writer becomes the target of a dangerous gang of drug traffickers who are trying to take over the Campo de Gibraltar. Compañero de vida, with an ending as shocking as its beginning, places the agents in situations from which it seems impossible to escape, in which the investigation can only be resolved with ingenuity, courage and the will to win.

Jesús María Zuloaga is one of the great experts on terrorism in our country. In the 1970s he covered conflicts and news of historical importance for Europa Press and edited the newspaper Lanza. Over the last 36 years, first at ABC, where he created the investigative section, and then at La Razón, he has devoted his career to reporting on terrorist gangs and, more recently, on jihadist gangs. He has received several awards, such as the National Journalism Award and the Javier Bueno Award, and holds the Merits of the Guardia Civil and the Police.
