The musical Los Productores (The Producers), without a doubt one of the funniest and most spectacular musicals in history, has just opened at the Nuevo Teatro Alcalá in Madrid (Calle Jorge Juan, 62). Created by the genius of humour Mel Brooks.
The Producers has won Tony Awards (12 in total), as well as 11 Drama Desk Awards, 8 Outer Critics Circle Awards and 3 Laurence Olivier Awards, in addition to the Oscar it won in ’69 for Best Original Screenplay and the Grammy in 2002 for Best Musical Album.
The musical comes to Madrid thanks to Nostromo Live, producer of hits such as La Jaula de las Locas, La tienda de los horrores and Cantando bajo la lluvia, shows that have been applauded by more than 1 million spectators and won more than 20 awards. And it has stage direction by Àngel Llàcer and Enric Cambray, musical direction by Manu Guix and Gerard Alonso and choreography by Miryam Benedited. It stars 24 actors and dancers led by Armando Pita, Ricky Mata, Àngel Llàcer and Mireia Portas and a large live orchestra.
Max Bialystock is a Broadway producer who is broke, and Leo Bloom, a young accountant. Both dream of getting rich with a surprising plan. To achieve their goal, they must produce the biggest flop in the history of musical theatre and make off with the investors’ money. But pulling off a real disaster is no easy task. They have to find the worst script, the worst directing team, the worst actors, and premiere an absolutely dreadful show. Will they succeed? Tickets can be purchased at this link.
