The Diplomat

Yesterday, the First Ibero-American Congress of Sustainable, Inclusive and Fair Tourism began in Cancún (Mexico), in which more than 60 representatives of the public and private sectors from all over Ibero-America participated.

The meeting has been organized by the Council of Ibero-American Entrepreneurs-CEIB and the Ibero-American Federation of Young Entrepreneurs (FIJE), in collaboration with the International Organization of Employers (IOE), the Government of Mexico and UN Tourism, and representatives of those institutions and other similar ones in the region.

More than 60 representatives of the public and private sectors from all over Ibero-America address issues of interest to the region in the field of tourism, such as resilient destinations and strategies to mitigate unwanted impacts; talent development and fair and inclusive employability; and the challenge of local governance and the creation of public-private alliances for impact.

The Congress will continue tomorrow with an open day, in which experts from the entire region will delve into the topics of the first day and others of maximum interest such as “At the forefront of change: in defense of the Mexican Caribbean”, “Adaptability: a decided commitment ” or “The most human sector of all.”

Mexican government authorities will open the event; the president of the National Federation of Chambers of Industries of Ecuador (FNCIE)/CEIB, Francisco Jarrín; the president of FIJE, Matías Fernández; the president of CEOE, Antonio Garamendi; the Secretary General of the OIE, Roberto Suárez; and the national vice president of International Affairs of the Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic-COPARMEX, Fernando Treviño.

Over the course of three panels, focused on the importance of public-private partnerships; resilient destinations, and the development of talent and employability, senior officials responsible for tourism-related policies, top leaders of Ibero-American business organizations, researchers, academics, representatives of multilateral organizations and experts from across the region will participate.

The conclusions of the event will be presented by the permanent secretary of CEIB, Narciso Casado, and the general secretary of FIJE, Antonio Magraner; and the day will be closed by representatives of the government of Mexico, the advisor to the Presidency of the Business Coordinating Council-CCE, Raúl Félix-Díaz Valencia, and the subregional director for Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America of the Ibero-American General Secretariat-SEGIB, Héctor Dada.

With this first Sustainable, Inclusive and Fair Tourism Congress, a new line of work is opened by CEIB and FIJE, which will be followed up and continued in future editions, given the relevance of this topic for the region. The concept of tourism as a business activity that generates wealth and quality employment, and promotes training and new job opportunities for young people, is enriching for the present and future of the region.

Yesterday, the First Ibero-American Congress of Sustainable, Inclusive and Fair Tourism, organized by CEIB, began in Cancún (Mexico).
