More than fifty foreign ambassadors accredited to Spain, and who are also accredited to Andorra, traveled to the Principality in the middle of the week to be present at the Constitution Day events.

On March 14, Andorra celebrates the anniversary of the Constitution approved in a referendum in 1993, a step that marked the creation of a modern State in the Principality.

For this reason, the general sindic or president of the Andorran Parliament, Carles Ensenyat Reig, offered a reception to the diplomatic representatives, among whom were those of Spain, Carlos Pérez-Desoy; and France, Jean-Claude Tribolet; the only countries that have an ambassador resident in Andorra. Also present were the Head of Government, Xavier Espot, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, María Ubach.

In his speech, the general sindic asked for “consensus” and looking to the future to face the debate on the association agreement with the European Union.

Previously, the Minister of Foreign Affairs had offered a lunch to all the ambassadors, and had held a meeting with the representatives of the EU countries.

In this last meeting, María Ubach analyzed with the diplomats Andorra’s association agreement with the European Union, which was approved in December of last year, and which is expected to be submitted to a referendum among the population in the first quarter of 2025. If the Andorrans approve the agreement, the Principality would become an associated State of the EU, which would allow it to have access to the European Internal Market.
