Once again this year, on the occasion of the events surrounding Women’s Day, the Instituto Francés in Madrid is joining forces with the Ellas Crean festival and on this occasion with the Instituto Polaco de Cultura, to raise awareness of the artistic creations of women and to pay tribute to the Polish scientist Maria Skłodowska (Marie Curie). With this in mind, this evening at 8 p.m. the film Marie Curie, produced in 2016 by Germany, Poland and France, by the French director Marie Noëlle and starring Karolina Gruszka, will be screened.
Shortly after Marie Curie and Pierre Curie won the Nobel Prize for Physics, Pierre dies in a tragic accident. Alone with two children, the thirty-something Marie clings to her scientific studies in a male-dominated world, becoming the first woman to receive a professorship at the Sorbonne University in Paris. When she falls in love with Paul, a married scientist, and begins an affair with him, his jealous wife makes their relationship public, at the same time as her Nobel Prize in Chemistry is announced. Instead of enjoying the fame she has earned for her remarkable research work, Marie is defamed for committing adultery. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
