Organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan and the Foundation for the Promotion and Development of Women’s Rights, and coinciding with International Women’s Day (8M), Taiwan Gender Equality Week is being held once again this year as part of the 68th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68), an event that will take place in New York from 11 to 22 March 2024, according to the Economic and Cultural Office of Taipei in Spain.
The CSW68 is the largest annual United Nations meeting on gender equality and women’s empowerment, and is being held this year under the priority theme “Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening gender-responsive institutions and financing”.
Taiwan, which was ranked first in Asia for gender equality in 2023, is holding various events during CSW68 as part of its Gender Equality Week, including the Taiwan Main Forum and Cultural Night, Gender Innovation Night and the CSW68 NGO Forum.
The Taiwan Keynote Forum and Culture Night will be held on 13 March at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York. At this event, women entrepreneurs, representatives of financial institutions and other distinguished guests will discuss how to stimulate gender equality through financial resilience and inclusion.
The Gender Innovation Night will be held at the Impact Hub New York on 14 March. The event will highlight the innovative power of younger generations’ perspectives in advocating for gender equality and will address the implementation of the DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) goals in all aspects of life.
The CSW68 NGO Forum will also be held from 11-22 March, with 30 side events from Taiwanese NGOs sharing their experiences on women’s financial resilience, social protection systems and other gender equality issues.
