The State Secretary for Defense, Amparo Valcarce, traveled yesterday to India to support the Spanish Defense industry and strengthen relations with a country that is considered a priority for industrial cooperation in the field of arms and defensive material.
During her stay in New Delhi, as reported by the Ministry of Defense in a press release, the State Secretary met with her Indian counterpart, Shiri Giridhar Aramame, to convey the Government’s interest in continuing and increasing the excellent relations in this area. of security and defense between both countries and analyze specific areas in which to work together on present and future challenges.
In this sense, Valcarce conveyed “the enthusiasm” with which Spain supports strategic projects that are currently underway, such as NAVANTIA’s alliance with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and its joint offer for the construction of submarines for the Indian Navy and the acquisition of four amphibious ships.
The State Secretary took the opportunity to invite him to the fourth edition of FEINDEF, the international fair for the Defense and Security sector in Spain, which has the institutional support of the Ministry of Defense and will be held from May 12 to 14, 2025, at IFEMA, Madrid.
In October 2012, the Ministries of Defense of Spain and India signed a cooperation agreement that has served as the basis for increased cooperation between the armies and defense industries of both countries. In addition, the two countries have, since 2015, an agreement for the exchange and reciprocal protection of classified information related to the field of the defense industry. The objective of this type of agreement is, precisely, to promote the development of the Spanish defense industry and commercial exchanges in this sector without danger to security or national interests.
