The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, yesterday presented to a group of women from various areas of Spanish society the progress and challenges of the Government’s Feminist Foreign Policy, on the occasion of the celebration of International Women’s Day.
“Spain is a reference country in feminist foreign policy, with a political approach that promotes gender equality as a transversal principle and priority of Spanish foreign action,” declared the Ministry in a press release. The women participating in the event were able to incorporate their opinions “on the path towards gender equality in international relations,” he added.
Throughout 2024, according to Foreign Affairs, the action plan for the Feminist Foreign Policy approved last October will be deployed. This plan integrates the gender perspective into all foreign policy actions and develops measures around Spain’s five priorities in this area: women, peace and security, human rights, elimination of violence against women and girls, participation and economic empowerment of women in all spheres of society.
“In an international context marked by multiple crises, armed conflicts and the rise of authoritarian movements that try to undermine the functioning of democracy and limit the autonomy of women, it is more necessary than ever to fight for gender equality and human rights. of women and girls,” the Ministry concluded.
