His Majesty the King will receive in audience on Friday, the 8th, the commissioner general of the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, as announced yesterday by the King’s House.
Lazzarini, who is on a visit to Spain, also plans to hold a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, who last Monday announced, before the Joint Commission for the European Union, that the Government is preparing a new package of funds for UNRWA.
The commissioner will foreseeably thank Spain for being one of the countries that has decided to maintain aid to UNRWA, and even increase it, with an additional contribution of 3.5 million euros, after the main Western governments decided to suspend aid. , in response to Israel’s complaint that some of the organization’s workers participated in the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7.
The UN agency proceeded to dismiss those involved and opened an internal investigation, but has continued to demand that aid be maintained in order to meet the needs of the Palestinian population of the Gaza Strip, subjected to attacks by the Israeli Army.
