The Spanish socialist Nacho Sánchez Amor has been elected number 5 on the list of the most influential MEPs in Foreign Affairs, Security and EU Enlargement, according to the EU Matrix platform.
According to the media, the Extremaduran MEP has been selected for his work as “spokesperson for the Socialists and Democrats (S&D) group in the Human Rights Subcommittee, and for his active legislative work, especially on human rights issues.”
Only the Croatian Tonino Picula, the German David McAllister, the Belgian Hilde Vautmans and the Lithuanian Petras Austrevicius are ahead of the Spanish MEP.
Nacho Sánchez Amor, in addition to human rights spokesperson for the S&D group, is permanent rapporteur of the European Parliament for Turkey, electoral observation coordinator of the Electoral Observation and Democracy Support Group (DEG) of the European Parliament, and member of the Commission Foreign Affairs and the Subcommittee on Human Rights, and the Delegations for EU-Turkey relations and Euronest (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine).
Likewise, he has been a speaker, among others, for the various annual reports on Turkey, the European Parliament’s annual report on human rights and democracy in the world for 2023, and the report on the right to political participation and resilience of electoral processes. in authoritarian regimes, as well as alternative rapporteur in other dossiers. Currently, he is a rapporteur in the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Directive on Consular Protection of EU Citizens in third countries.

The EU Matrix platform aims to offer objective information adapted to the digital age on the political functioning of the European Union.
