The spokesman for the Partido Popular in the Foreign Affairs Committee of Congress, Carlos Floriano, was the first guest at the meetings organised by Prestomedia and its newspaper, The Diplomat in Spain, at the Diplomatic Club of Madrid. The talk, in which the diplomats asked the speaker numerous questions, had as its theme the New Legislature in Spain: its challenges and proposals.
Although the PSOE’s spokesperson in the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Spanish Congress, Hana Jalloul, was also scheduled to attend as a speaker, last-minute health problems prevented her from joining the meeting. However, she sent a message read out by Prestomedia’s CEO, Yago González, expressing her regret at not being able to attend and expressing her desire to attend on a future occasion.
The event was attended by some thirty ambassadors accredited to Spain, who were interested in the PP representative’s views on different aspects of Spanish foreign policy, as well as on other domestic policy issues.
The Diplomatic Club, inaugurated on 13 December at the exclusive Dry Martini (Calle Ferraz, 2), will organise two monthly sessions in which members of the Government, politicians, businessmen, representatives of the world of culture and Spanish civil society will participate. The ambassadors will be able to have direct contact with them, in a relaxed atmosphere and away from the media spotlight, as the meetings will be held under the Chatham House rule.
The next meeting will take place on Wednesday 14 February and will address Spain’s electoral calendar for this year. Gerardo Iracheta, President of Sigmados, one of the most important Spanish polling companies, will participate in the Diplomatic Club to unravel the key issues.
The aim of the Diplomatic Club is to create and strengthen links between foreign embassies accredited in Spain and prominent economic, political and cultural actors.
