Teatro Fernán Gómez premieres the play ‘Mi abuela no se llama Carmen’

The actress Ana Mayo directs, writes and performs the play Mi abuela no se llama Carmen, which opens at the Teatro Fernán Gómez‘s Sala Jardiel Poncela. Centro Cultural de la Villa ( Plaza de Colón, 4) from 1 to 17 March, a journey as spiritual as it is earthly that will leave no one indifferent.

The play is the journey of a granddaughter who rediscovers her grandmother in the last moments they spent together. It speaks of life and death, of historical memory and lack of memory. Of vital decisions that only women face, of pregnancy, motherhood and loneliness. Friendship and family as cardinal points. Ancient loyalties, invisible inheritances and ancestral memories, like a score that should be followed.

I am certain,” says the director and protagonist during the play, “that something resonates in a different way within us when we think of our grandmothers. Mine, my grandmother, was exceptional because she was mine and I am convinced that something similar will happen to many of you with yours. When we place ourselves in the role of granddaughter something very childish appears, a kindness is imposed, a ‘good’ look in which cynicism, irony, sarcasm or mockery rarely fit. It is from this love that the text was woven, as a kind of homage”. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
