Casa Asia, with the collaboration of the Spanish Association of Pacific Studies (AEEP), joins once again next Monday 4th of March at 7pm in the celebration of the Pacific Day, in memory of the 6th of March 1521, the day when the ships of the expedition of Magellan and Elcano arrived to the island of Guam, the first recorded meeting between Europeans and inhabitants of Oceania.
In this 2024 edition, the books Quinientos años de un océano llamado Pacífico and El viaje que nos unió: estudios en torno a la Primera Vuelta al Mundo, published by Dykinson, will be presented. Registration for the event is now open.
The event will be moderated by Emilio de Miguel, director of the Casa Asia Centre-Madrid, and Alfonso Bullón de Mendoza, prologue author of El viaje que nos unió: Estudios en torno a la Primera Vuelta a Mundo, professor of History, president of the San Pablo CEU University Foundation; María Saavedra, prologist of Quinientos años de un océano llamado Pacífico, director of the CEU Elcano Chair of Naval History and Culture, member of the Board of Directors of the AEEP, and Rafael Rodríguez-Ponga, co-director of both books, president of the Spanish Association of Pacific Studies (AEEP) and rector of the Universitat Abat Oliba CEU.
