On 6, 16 and 17 March, Spanish version of Virginia Woolf ‘s ‘A Room of One’s Own returns to the Teatro del Barrio , directed by María Ruiz and performed by Clara Sanchis, after seven years on tour.

“I told them gently to drink wine and have a room of their own”, writes Virginia Woolf in her diary in 1928. She has just given a series of talks, in Cambridge, to the first generation of young university women, on the subject of women and literature, which are the origin of this indispensable text, and in this stage version, an ironic and moving speech with live music that has already become a classic of the stage.

An imaginary, vivid and humorous experience that flows like an inexorable river into some of the most intelligent and seemingly simple ideas about the role of women in the world.

Virginia Woolf writes A Room of One’s Own when the greatest social revolution of all time is taking place: the equality of men and women before the law. It is only nine years since women have been granted the vote. “Are you aware that we women are perhaps the most contested animal in the universe?” the British writer asks the audience. Tickets can be purchased here.
