The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, attended yesterday in Paris the International Conference in Support of Ukraine, which coincided with the second anniversary of the Russian aggression against Ukraine and in which he defended the need to maintain “European and transatlantic unity” in the face of the Vladimir Putin’s regime.

During his speech at the conference, in which around twenty heads of State and Government participated, mostly European, along with representatives from the United States and Canada, Pedro Sánchez reiterated the importance of maintaining and increasing financial and military support to Ukraine, but “preserving European and transatlantic unity.”

According to the President of the Government, “unity has been and is the most effective weapon against Putin”, so, when adopting new measures, “these must arise from consensus and debate among all allies.”

Sánchez underlined the need to approve the new Assistance Fund for Ukraine in the EU, which offers predictable and sustained support over time, and the urgency of increasing European industrial capacity to fulfill the commitment to send ammunition and equipment, in addition to help Ukraine develop its own capabilities.

Two years after the start of the Russian aggression, the President of the Government highlighted “Spain’s support for Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict”, with the sending of humanitarian and military aid and the reception of Ukrainian refugees. This support, he assured, “will be maintained as long as necessary until peace is achieved.”

In this sense, Pedro Sánchez reiterated his support for “a just and lasting peace”, in accordance with the principles of International Law and the United Nations Charter, “enclosed in the formula presented by President Volodímir Zelensky”.
