Theatre, song and dance, drama and comedy, simultaneously with a single actor representing all the classic characters of the Balinese traditions. The renowned artist I Wayan Bawa, master of the International School of Theatre Anthropology (ISTA), offered last Friday a demonstration of Balinese dance-theatre work at the Indonesian Embassy in Madrid.

Before an audience of around fifty people, I Wayan Bawa, who is currently on tour in Europe, explained in a fun and entertaining way the techniques of vocalisation, movements and gestures used in this millenary form of stage expression which in many cases, like his own, is passed down from father to son.

Bali preserves the richest performing arts tradition in Southeast Asia and is famous throughout the theatrical world.
