Grigory Sokolov returns to Auditorio Nacional with Fundación Scherzo

The Fundación Scherzo presents once again the pianist Grigory Sokolov , known as the “Titan of the piano”, in its Great Performers series this evening at 19.30 in the Symphonic Hall of the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid.

With Sokolov’s programmes being a mystery until weeks before the start of the tour, in this 2024 tour, the Russian performer, recently naturalised Spanish, will dazzle concert-goers with works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Fédrédic Chopin and Robert Schumann.

With the always sinuous and hypnotic Vier Duette, BWV 802-805 and the melancholic and pathetic Partita II in C minor, BWV 826, by the German musician, Sokolov presents a more reflective and transcendental first part. The second part of the concert will be devoted to the more romantic wing of the music lover’s sentiments. The Four Mazurkas op. 30 and the Three Mazurkas op. 50, by F. Chopin give the bel canto made piano, with that swaying so typical of the Polish dance.

To conclude, Sokolov will surprise us with a work that is prophetic to say the least: the “Waldszenen” (“Forest Scenes”), Op. 82, by Robert Schumann, the last great piano cycle composed by this composer, which reflects a more evocative and pensive universe. Tickets for the concert can be purchased here.
