The Jewish origins of Broadway is the title of the concert that the Centro Sefarad-Israel (Calle Mayor, 69) is offering on Wednesday 28 February at 6 p.m., with the composer and musical director Gaby Goldman and the actress and singer Silvia Luchetti (in the photo), a journey through the most iconic musical compositions of Jewish Broadway.
Broadway is, without a doubt, the world reference in the creation of musical theatre. At the turn of the century, comedy and vaudeville theatre sought cheaper ground around Union Square, thus laying the “first stones” of an artistic circuit that would soon be filled with music. It was in the 1920s and 1930s that musical theatre would reach levels of performances that surpassed those of other types of performances, to which the success of jazz and films with live musical performances contributed. Admission is free, subject to confirmation at this link.
