The Ambassador of China, Yao Jing, was one of six ambassadors who presented their credentials to King Felipe VI at the Royal Palace in Madrid, in the third ceremony to be held this year.

The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Zeineb Ely Salem, was the first to make an appearance in the Official Chamber of the Royal Palace. She was followed by the Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Raghed Basem Antone Al Saqqa; the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Yao Jing; the Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vesna Andree Zaimovic; the Ambassador of Cape Verde, Eduardo Jorge Lima Barros Silva; and the Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore, residing in Singapore, Jennie Chua.

After each ceremonial presentation of accreditation in the Official Chamber, Don Felipe spent a few minutes with each ambassador in the Nuncio’s Salette.

For the first time at this type of ceremony, the new head of His Majesty the King’s Household, the diplomat Camilo Villarino, who took up his post at the beginning of the month, was present. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was represented by the Undersecretary, Luis Cuesta, as the Minister, José Manuel Albares, was in Rabat, accompanying the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, on his trip to Morocco.

The Letters of Credence are the document that accredits a foreign ambassador as the representative and highest diplomatic authority of another country in Spain. The ceremony of presentation to the Head of State dates back to the 18th century, and has remained practically unchanged in its development to the present day.
