In an evening for contemporary dance, the Ministry of Culture of Taiwan and the Economic and Cultural Office of Taipei in Spain, in collaboration with the Mercat de Les Flors Casa de la Danza, culminated the Panorama Taiwan project with the presentation of the Taiwanese contemporary dance companies B Dance and Shimering Production, on Saturday 17 February in the city of Barcelona.
The Taiwanese choreographers and dancers received a standing ovation from the audience, and expressed their gratitude and special interest in continuing to strengthen the bonds of collaboration between Taipei and Barcelona in the field of contemporary dance.
The executive director of the Mercat, Feliú Batló, the artistic programmer, Marc Olivié, and the director of the Cultural Division of the Economic and Cultural Office of Taipei in Spain, Augusta Chang, thanked the choreographers and the audience for their dedicated work.
Directed by choreographer Wang Yeu-Kwn, Shimmering Production has been awarded the Yokohama Dance Collection’s 2021 Double Award and 2021 Residency Award and, since then, started its international tour in Greece (2022), Germany (2022 and 2023), Japan (Winter 2023), Spain (Spring 2024) and Portugal (Spring 2024). While its international tour and outreach programmes continue to grow, the company has begun creating Islands, the second episode of A Trilogy – Quest of Relationships, commissioned by the National Theater and Concert Hall in Taipei, which will premiere in autumn 2024.
As for B Dance Company, founded in 2014 by Taiwanese choreographer Po-Cheng Tsai, it is currently one of the emerging contemporary dance groups on the international scene. Po-Cheng Tsai has developed a choreographic language and aesthetic that blends traditional Asian movements and martial arts with contemporary dance, creating a style that has earned him numerous international awards and recognition.
