Ambassador Anabel Bueno Santana presented on January 25 the credentials accrediting her as Permanent Representative of the Dominican Republic to UN Tourism (formerly the World Tourism Organization) to the Secretary General of this organization, Zurab Pololiskashvili.
According to the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in a press release, during the ceremony, Ambassador Bueno reaffirmed her government’s commitment to multilateralism and to UN-Tourism, in particular, considering the importance of this sector for the social and economic development of the country and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The diplomat was accompanied by the Vice-Minister of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, Carlos Peguero; the advisor Nathalie Abreu Patxot and a large delegation of the Dominican tourism sector.
On behalf of UN-Tourism, the Secretary General was accompanied by the Executive Director, Natalia Bayona and the Director of the Regional Department for the Americas, Gustavo Santos, as well as Dominican officials working in the organisation.
Prior to her appointment, Anabel Bueno served as Alternate Representative to the OAS and has more than thirty years of experience in multilateral organisations, including as the first woman and youngest official to manage the cooperation portfolio of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), as well as in the private sector and diplomacy.
