The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, met on Monday in Madrid with the president of the Parliament of Honduras, Luis Redondo, with whom he promised to “join forces” to promote Spanish as an official language in the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

“We have discussed Spain-Honduras bilateral relations and agreed to join forces to promote Spanish as an official language in the International Court of Justice,” Albares declared through his official account on the social network X.

“Extraordinary meeting with José Manuel Albares to join forces with the presidents of the legislative powers of Central America, the Caribbean and Mexico,” wrote, for his part, Luis Redondo through the same social network. “Ibero-America united to promote Spanish as an official language in the International Court of Justice,” he added.

The Honduran Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Honduras, Enrique Reina, also reported on the meeting. “Thank you, José Manuel, for your permanent support in the bilateral relationship and for your meeting with the president of the National Congress,” he declared through X.

For his part, the Honduran ambassador to Spain, Marlon Brevé Reyes, reported through the same channel that in the meeting between Albares and Redondo “other issues associated with the political-diplomatic and cooperation relationship between Honduras and Spain were also discussed.”
