The Iranian Embassy in Spain yesterday paid tribute to the civil guards killed in Barbate in a ceremony presided over by Ambassador Reza Zabib and attended by commanders of UPROSE (the Protection and Security Unit) of the Guardia Civil.

In its X (formerly Twitter) account, the Iranian Embassy expressed “our deepest condolences to the entire family of the Guardia Civil of the Kingdom of Spain for the murder of two civil guardsmen in the line of duty. We join in the grief of their families and colleagues”.

Eight people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the death of the two officers and have been brought before the courts. Six of them were on board the ‘narcolancha’ that ran over the security forces’ boat. They are all charged with two counts of homicide and two counts of serious injury.

Two other men, who were on land and went to pick up the crew members of the boat in Sotogrande, are accused of concealment and serious resistance to authority, although they have been released with charges.

The deceased officers are Miguel Ángel González Gómez, 39, a member of the Group of Specialists in Underwater Activities (GEAS), and David Pérez Carracedo, 43, of the Rapid Action Group (GAR). Two other guardsmen were injured, one of them slightly and the other seriously, although he is out of danger, according to the Puerto Real Hospital.
